OAU student gives birth & attempts to flush new born baby down the toilet in school hostel

According to reports I got this morning from students of Obafemi Awolowo University, a female student of the school gave birth in the Moremi Hostel hall toilet and attempted to flush the baby but was caught my the hall cleaners.

They say the girl's name is Oyin (let's leave her surname out for now) and she's a 400l student of Electrical and Electronics Engineering. The incident happened very early this morning.

According to a student of the school who sent in the photo, a cleaner heard a baby crying inside one of the toilet stalls and then saw blood coming from under the door. She quickly went to call other cleaners around and they forced the door open.

When the cleaners entered the toilet they saw the student pouring water inside the closet, the baby turned upside down, with the head inside the closet.

One of the women dipped her hand inside and removed the baby...a boy, who was still very much alive but bleeding from the nose. The cleaners called school management who rushed both the girl and the baby to Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital for treatment. The placenta fell while they were rushing the girl to the hospital.

Peace returns to uniben

Calm is gradually returning to the University of Benin. From what I have been told, most members of the warring secret cults have gone into hiding after attacks in the past few days.
The popular Guest House of the University of Benin, which usually plays host to students who wish to relax, was empty on Saturday and Sunday. A waiter, who requested anonymity, complained that they have witnessed a serious drop in revenue because the students are scared.
This has been the biggest cult war that the institution has witnessed recently, and while the officially confirmed death toll is six, rumours have it that the true toll is more like twenty-two.
On June 14, a 200 level Mathematics student, Uche Emmanuel Alajemba, popularly known as Snazzy, was shot in the head. The incident happened at the University’s Sports Complex during a biometrics registration exercise. According to eyewitnesses, the shooter calmly dropped the gun afterwards and walked into the crowd before he could be identified.
Uche Anajemba, a.k.a Snazzy was shot in the head at the university's Sports Complex
Uche Alajemba, a.k.a Snazzy was shot in the head at the university’s Sports Complex
Snazzy was taken to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH). Most people that I spoke with alleged that he was a member of the Eiye Confraternity. As of the time of filing this report, stories had started making the rounds that he was not dead yet, but under protective police custody while he recovers from his wounds at the UBTH.
What caused it?
The true reasons behind the current, bloody clash between the Black Axe confraternity and their biggest campus rivals, the Eiye confraternity, are still unclear. There are conflicting reports making the rounds on the university campus.
The most common story is that a group of students who belong to the Eiye confraternity went to collect some money owed one of their members from a student who belonged to the Black Axe at his residence.
Unfortunately, the discussions got heated and the Black Axe member went into his abode, returned with a double barreled gun and shot one of the visiting men in the legs before they made away to regroup for a retaliatory attack. No names were given for any of the participants in this drama.
When I spoke to Osahon*, a Mechanical Engineering student, he was convinced that this story was true, and that it was that event that sparked the waves of killings.
“The Ake (Black Axe) boy bring im tools (Weapon) out just aim the boy for leg when dem dey drag the money. Na so e take start. The Eiye boys come go gather themselves return but dem no meet am, so dem just go im friend house light (kill) am throway,” he said, preferring to speak in pidgin English.
“That boy, Snazzy, wen dem shoot for sports complex, no even know say the war don spread reach like that before dem kill am.”
However, Sammy*, a Law student, holds a different view on how the war began. He opined that the recent attacks are a retaliation for last December’s clash between the two cult groups.
“The Black Axe confraternity felt shortchanged from the December confra clash, but at the time they could not retaliate because governor (Adams Oshiomhole) had already asked them to resolve the issue. So they waited for everything to die down and then they now started attacking the Eiye cult members,” Sammy said.
When I spoke to a few other students, most agreed with either one of the two stories but a few came up with new theories of their own, ranging from a disagreement over a girl, a bar brawl gone awry and a clash over the recruitment of new members.
Speaking with the combatants
I made attempts to speak with members of both rival gangs and was able to attract the attention of a member (he claimed to be an official) of the Black Axe confraternity who opted to speak on condition of anonymity.
The Official said that the rival groups are currently in negotiations to address the issue and that all other things being equal, they should resolve the issues in the coming days. According to The Official, himself and his executive members are not in support of a war between the two factions and that they would do everything possible to resolve the crisis soon.
He also stated that the members of the Black Axe confraternity who initiated the crisis would be sanctioned, and if found culpable of inciting the crisis, they would be dealt with.
Silence in the ivory tower
The University of Benin has taken on a sombre mood and Ehis, an Electrical Engineering student, hopes that lasting solutions would be found to the recurrent crisis of cult clashes within the university, so students who are not affiliated to any of these cult groups can continue their studies unhindered.

“Walking into my house in Ekosodin has become a problem. I cannot go out to read at night again because I am afraid of getting caught in the crossfire. I wish the school can protect us students from the menace of these people,” he said.
Latest events
Despite The Official’s claims, the battle is not showing signs of abating. Governor Oshiomhole’s recent ban on the use of commercial motorcycles in large swathes of Edo state has been interpreted in some quarters as an attempt to reduce the violence. As of the time of writing, locals say that 10 arrests have been made by the police, the latest being a policeman who’s name the police have so far refused to release. A short conversation with DSP Moses Eguavoen, the state’s police spokesman confirmed that indeed some people have been arrested, but no names were given.
In their official reaction though, the police in Edo state say that measures have been put in place to stop the violence. Commissioner of Police, Foluso Adebanjo, said that the Police is collaborating with the Management of the University of Benin to curb the menace in and around the campus.
“We are not relaxing at all. We are in search of the leaders behind these killings. Already, we have arrested some persons in connection with the crisis while others are on the run. The killings will stop because policemen are all on the alert now,” Adebanjo said. “All security agencies in the state are concerned. The governor is equally concerned and residents of the state are concerned. So, we will not relent in stopping this madness. It is very sad that people no longer value human lives; it is sad.”

Porn Star Sues 'Buttman' Never Told Me He Was HIV Positive

Katie-SummersevilangelA popular porn star who appeared in the movie "Buttman's Stretch Class #4" is suing the male lead (Buttman) ... claiming he failed to disclose that he was HIV positive before they shot sex scenes.

The woman behind the lawsuit is Katie Summers -- real name Katherine Howard -- who claims she was paid to appear in the film back in 2009 ... and the role involved sexual interaction with John Stagliano (aka Buttman).

In Katie's lawsuit, filed in L.A. County Superior Court and obtained by TMZ, the porn star claims Stagliano had known he was HIV positive since 1997 ... but failed to disclose that information before they shot their sex scenes for the movie.

FYI -- Stagliano has been open about his condition for years.

Still, Katie claims she didn't find out about Stagliano's condition until 2012 ... 3 years after they shot the movie.

In her suit, Summers does not say if she is HIV positive.

Summers is suing for negligence, intentional infliction of emotional distress and sexual battery. She's also suing John's production company -- Evil Angel Productions -- which produced the flick.

Summers is suing for unspecified damages -- and wants a judge to hit Evil Angel with an injunction forbidding the company from continuing to produce movies with Stagliano unless it discloses his condition to others.

Bishop Oyedepo Suspends Covenant University’s Former Vice-Chancellor For Examination Fraud

Culled from SaharaReporters

Professor Aize Obayan, a former Vice Chancellor of Covenant University, Ota has been suspended from her position as director of the Education Commission of the Winners Chapel by the church’s general overseer, Bishop David Oyedepo.

Ms. Obayan was suspended for reportedly altering examination results for several students in the department of Mass Communications. Among the students who benefited from the former VC’s grade alteration was Ms. Obayan’s own daughter.

The former VC’s daughter graduated with a Second Class Upper Division in Mass Communication and is currently doing her National Youth Service Corps service.

A source at the university revealed that Ms. Obayan inflated all of her daughter’s scores, otherwise the young woman would have earned a Third Class degree.

Our source added that the former VC had re-introduced make-up examination without proper authorization – and after the university’s Senate had abolished the option. “She introduced make-up exam to enable her daughter [to] retake the course she failed,” said a source.

Recently, a Dr. Omojola, a lecturer in the Department of Mass Communication, petitioned the Chancellor of the University after his first protest was suppressed by the then VC. In his protest, Mr. Omojola alleged that Nnamdi Ekeanyanwu, the acting Head of Department of Mass Communication, had engaged in extensive alteration of students’ examination results. The petition led to Mr. Ekeanyanwu’s removal as Head of Department. Dr. Stanley Ngoa replaced him, but spent only the 2011-2012 session at the helm, before the former VC reappointed Dr. Ekeanyawu to return as departmental head.

Our source indicated that, with Dr. Ekeanyanwu’s return, the fraudulent practice of grade alteration worsened in the Mass Communication Department and across other departments of the university, including Chemistry where one student’s score was raised to 45% from 5 %, an outright failure. Associate Professor Taiwo Abioye, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, headed a panel appointed by the Chancellor, Professor C.K. Ayo, to investigate the case. Dr. Ekeanyanwu was summoned by the panel to defend himself on charges of altering examination scores of students, including Miss Obayan, for monetary benefits. He not only accepted his guilt for all the charges, but also confessed that he acted in collusion with the former VC, Professor Obayan.

Ms. Obayan was also invited to appear before the Abioye panel, but she reportedly offered no defense.

Pastor Faith Oyedepo, wife of Bishop Oyedepo, has taken over the duties of Ms. Obayan at the church’s secretariat. SaharaReporters learned that plans were underway to return Dr. Daniel Rotimi to the Education Commission. Mr. Rotimi was a one-time registrar of the University. SaharaReporters learned that Mr. Rotimi, who is a pastor, last year married a second wife (a former student at Covenant University) in his quest for a male child. He and his first wife had only girls. A lecturer at Covenant University told SaharaReporters that he wondered whether the university could really realize its much touted claim of raising a new generation of African leaders when top officials at the school offer examination grades for sale?

Kanye West Under Attack Over 'Parkinson's' Lyric On New Album

0618_kanye_apda_getty
Kanye West
is being slammed as "ignorant" and "distasteful" over a lyric on his new album which uses Parkinson's disease as a punch line ... I learned.

The song in question is called "On Sight" -- which includes the lyric, "A monster about to come alive again / Soon as I pull up and park the Benz / We get this bitch shaking like Parkinson's."

Now, I learned the American Parkinson Disease Association is upset about the lyric -- with the org.'s VP Kathryn Whitford telling reporters, "We find these lyrics distasteful and the product of obvious ignorance."

FYI -- the APDA has been around for over 50 years and it's the largest organization in the country dedicated to helping those with Parkinson's and furthering efforts to find a cure.

So far, no response from Kanye's camp.

A fan writes: An open letter to D’banj

A fan writes: An open letter to D’banj

A fan writes an open letter to Koko Master, D’banj. What’s your take on it?
Dear Oyebanjo, Dapo Daniel AKA D’Banj,I am seated at a local restaurant here at the university town of Nsukka, in Enugu State, Nigeria, drinking a bottle of Fayrouz and listening to the sound of the generator, which is the only source of electricity around here.I have watched your latestmusic video. I went through the rigour last night. It is the video of the song entitled “Don’t Tell Me Nonsense” and it was awfully disgusting, the song, I mean. Kaffy and the rest of the dancers didn’t disappoint in the video.

This is bad, I know, using awful and disgusting, in same sentence. But that is what I feel about what I saw. Brother, D’Banj, a lot has changed since you left your brother and hustle partner, Ajereh, Michael Collins AKA Don Jazzy. Truth. Your songs have been nothing but trash. I wonder if anyone has said anything nice to you since you started making songs outside Don Jazzy. If they have, it must have been for that singular hit song entitled ‘Oliver Twist.’ Kai! That song swept through Nigeria and the rest of the world. You would not believe that the ordinary child on the streets of Nsukka knows the lyrics of that song and the dance steps too.In Nigeria, there are plenty factors that weigh us down. One is our inability to manage our weaknesses. I see you have been buying yourself expensive jewelleries.

The other day, I saw on a blog that you wear a wristwatch worth my entire family and maybe inheritance. I commend your taste. You are a lucky and hardworking man. You deserve it, besides; ‘Oliver Twist’ made marks. It took the Nigerian music to a height that had never been seen in recent times. Its toping charts, downloads, Youtube views and itunes purchases are amongst the few things I can mention.Dear, D’Banj, Don Jazzy may not be an ideal partner, I bet you, no one is an ideal partner! Perfect couples quarrel and make up. It is the joy of having such union. I believe misunderstanding is part of us, as humans.

I will run to the zoo the day I see a union that agrees on almost everything.Back to your music, Ifeel Don Jazzy was made to make good music with you. He may not only be your producer, but whatever input, from advice, to production, will go a long way. Besides, he has been miserable too, without you. I have seen his eyes in music videos. There is one he did with Tiwa Savage. Ah, Tiwa. She looked dazzling, while Don Jazzy looked wanting and dispirited. Tiwa may have a perfect voice but Don Jazzy has not been able to achieve what he did with you. The other boys, K-Switch, Wande Coal and the goody bag crooner, D’Prince are unfortunate learners. They must be stark illiterates to have taken sides when you guys parted.

I understand their ignorance. But my concern here is, if you wish to stay relevant in the sight of Nigerians, making good music, and not caressing a stripper on stage on your birthday, then you have to make amends with Don Jazzy and understand that people argue because they are beneficial to themselves.

Only dummies agree on everything. I think tribalism had a lot to play in your split. It is a sad reality, if I am right. Tribalism will eventually destroy Nigeria. Our young people think they belong to a superior tribe and so make silly comments which sometimes bring about misconception and then crisis. I once had a boss, who is Igbo, who felt my tribe’s men were lazy, just because she came to my state and saw a job and was privileged to be a high ranking staff. I have had people who think those from the north should be gatekeepers and cobblers.

Someone called me a militant once in Abuja, at the Sheraton, when he discovered I was from the Niger-Delta. I forgave his gross stupidity. I think we should drink a cup of water when ignorant people say rubbish about our personalities or flaws and relate it to tribe. You are a great young man, D’Banj. Few people have attained the height you have. I am encouraged to pursue what I am currently pursuing because I know I will triumph. Your likes and that of 2Face Idibia, despite your weaknesses are heroes. And you must recall that Kanye West met you because he had heard good stuff from you. When nothing good manifests, he may be forced to give you a new job description at Good Music, which may be mopping of the floor of the studio. This evil will not befall you.

If you believe it, type amen. D’Banj, pride is the worst enemy of any man who wishes to last longer anywhere. A drop of arrogance may work, but pride is detrimental. You were called the ‘entertainer’ because you offered entertainment. Today, Inyanya, Kcee, Flavour, Wizkid and Davido are doing better. Imagine Burna-Boy, chai, that boy has some senses oh. His music, even when he is talking nonsense makes you want to sit and listen or dance to it, as the case may be. The only person that is yet to outshine you is my dearest sister, Tontolet Dike. That girl needs Jesus. I have to go back to my drink. I paid for it and it is almost missing me. I enjoy your struggle or hustle, as you may choose to call it. I wish to hear something profound from you. While awaiting that miracle that only you can perform, I wish you the very best of life.

Toolz’ Thoughts: Till Lack of Talent Do Us Part

Over the last few weeks, I’ve seen the good, the bad, the ugly and the WTH in auditions whilst working on X-Factor. Things can get quite emotional during the audition stage, so I was expecting a few tearful and heart-wrenching moments, but I honestly didn’t expect any deep and thought-provoking moments.
Let me explain. A few couples came to the auditions and this mainly consisted of one person coming to audition and their partner there for support. I would generally spend a bit of time with the ‘supporting partner’ backstage finding out (without being too intrusive) about their relationship and if the ‘supporting partner’ thinks the judges would dare say NO to their auditioning boo.
Whether the audition was good, bad or just average, one thing that was constant was the deep belief that the ‘supporting partner’ had for their auditioning boo. After seeing this a few times, I began mulling over this question: ‘To what extent would you support your partner’s dream?’
Everyone has a dream – some pursue this dream and make it a reality, some spend their lives on the continual pursuit of this dream and some are too scared to seriously pursue their dreams because of the fear of failure. It’s only natural that you become knowledgeable and supportive of your partner’s dream if you are married or in a serious relationship.
I’ve always thought that being in a serious relationship or being married essentially means you accept that your partner’s happiness is very high on your priority list. So this includes doing your best to ensure that they are happy and fulfilled mentally, physically, spiritually etc. Encouraging them and being supportive of their dream(s) is something that requires a lot of energy, but is essential for a happy relationship. The question though is ‘to what extent?’
I remember being at a show for upcoming acts a few years ago, and this man in his 30s got on stage to rap. He started by giving a shout out to his girlfriend of 4 years for her love and support and proceeded to tell us a bit about himself. He was a teacher but was passionate about rapping, and had a dream to one day make it big as a recording artist. Halfway through his performance, over half of the audience had lost interest… his performance was average to be honest. What caught my eye is his girlfriend, she was right in front of the stage rapping along to every single word, and she looked at him with so much belief that I was very moved. I left the event thinking that although I wasn’t a prophet, I knew that the odds of him becoming a big recording artist were quite slim, but the support his partner had for his dream was incredible.
After seeing the couples at the X-Factor auditions, I began questioning if I realistically had it in me to be that supportive. What about situations where a partner’s dream seems almost unattainable in your eyes… are you supposed to continue to support 110% or are you supposed to be honest and tell your partner that you don’t think they can achieve that dream and risk crushing their spirit?
Let me leave you with this scenario – You’ve been married for about 3 years and things are going really well. Your husband/wife has this dream project that they would like use some of the family’s savings to fund – not all of it, say about 40%. Remember this is money that you have both saved, you are not totally convinced that the project will be successful, but your partner is extremely passionate about it … what do you do?

CHUDDY K NEW LABEL

What seems to have become a trend in the Nigerian music industry is artistes falling apart with their record labels. The last 12 months have recorded such occurrences, one of the most popular was between Wizkid and Banky W, the EME boss.
*Chuddy
*Chuddy
This time, it is between, Chuddy K and Wale Kuku of SQN. Reacting to the allegation of leaving the label illegally, the publicist to “gaga crazy” crooner, Emmanuel Abba, said that there was a breach of contract between Chuddy K and SQN and as a result, they have to terminate the contract through their lawyer.
“The contract was signed without the consent of Chuddy K’s lawyer and the label since then, has not been keeping to the terms of the agreement. They are not paying him well, they are owing him up to four shows now. As far as I am concern, there was a breach of contract and as a result, the contract has been terminated.
Chuddy K is in South Africa now celebrating with D’Banj on his birthday,” he said.
Responding, Wale Kuku, SQN boss said that the label is not owing the singer any dime and that nobody has the right to do any business with Chuddy K except through him.
“That’s very impossible, because we are very thorough, principled and professional. Till date, we don’t owe Chuddy K a dime, he can’t possibly confront the record label with such a statement” Wale said. The latest gist is that Chuddy K has moved on with his own label called, “Kent records” just like Wizkid did.

Marketers jostle for Afrocandy’s soft-porn movie

It is not a rumour, but reality. Some movie marketers are jostling to win the right to sell Afrocandy’s controversial “Destructive Instinct’ movie in Nigeria.
The American based Nollywood actress cum singer confirmed this development to HVP yesterday morning when she was contacted via facebook.
Afro Candy
Afro Candy
“Destructive Instinct” which is currently being greeted with mixed-reactions from fans features the 41-year old mother of 2 completely nude in sexually explicit positions as she tries to make a daring impact on the industry
HVP gathered that some reputable marketers are already giving Afrocandy the headache in choosing who will eventually win the right to distribute her movie in the country. The film was premiered in America recently. Those who graced the premiere said, it was well attended.
Meanwhile, it is unclear if the censors board will pass the film for sale in Nigeria.

Justice Adamu Hobon of the Federal High Court, Benin, Edo State had on Thursday convicted and sentenced four fraudsters, Aimuamwehi Friday Osareren, Omorede Darlington, Iyokho Nosa and Agugba Chukwuemeka to 160 years imprisonment. The convicts were arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on July 18, 2011 and December 7, 2011 on separate charges bordering on conspiracy and obtaining money under false pretences.
While the first three convicts, Aimuamwehi Friday Osareren, Omorede Darlington and Iyokho Nosa, were arraigned on an 11-count charge, the fourth, Agugba Chukwuemeka, was prosecuted on a two-count charge.
They were found guilty and convicted accordingly.

He is a confirmed Boko Haram member and must be killed – Father hands son over to JTF

A father (identity withheld) in Maiduguri, Borno State capital, has handed over his son to the Joint Task Force,JTF, saying that he’s a confirmed member of the dreaded outlawed sect, Boko Haram and must be killed in his presence.
The man, a trader at the Monday International Market in the city, according to residents, said that the son had once threatened to kill him before he fled home to an unknown destination and later returned home a few days ago.
“He was said to have returned as a prodigal son and wanted some kind of asylum in his father’s compound without knowing that destiny was at the door waiting for him. After confessing all his crimes, including how he participated in the killing of people and looting of banks to his father, the old man said he had no such dead conscience of keeping a killer son in his home,” a family member said.
The 60-year-old Kanuri man who lives in Babban Layi commercial area of Maiduguri simply approached the Sector Command office of the JTF in the area and asked the troops to instantly shoot his son to death.
The witnesses quoted him as saying, “This boy is my son; he is a confirmed member of Boko Haram, and has killed many people; he too must be killed.”
In a dramatic twist, the young man was shot at once as he attempted to flee from the soldiers. And his father, who had not gone far from the JTF, simply turned and looked at the body of his son and said, “Masha Allah” meaning, “To God be the glory.”
Before the boy was handed over to the soldiers, he allegedly revealed to his father and family members that he had two cars and millions of naira buried near his father’s house.
But the father however replied, “I have no interest in his ill-gotten wealth and I have no intentions of inheriting them. In Islamic injunctions they are ‘haram’ (forbidden wealth).”

Wizkid says lets "TALK"

Get Familiar: Wizkid – Talk
After pushing back the release date of his forthcoming second album from 12th June 2013, Wizkid decided to appease the fans with a new tune off the new album, “Talk”, produced by Legendury beatz.

Kanye's 'Yeezus' set for huge debut

According to forecasters, Kanye West's sixth studio album, "Yeezus," could be in for one of the biggest chart debuts of the year.
A report from Billboard.com says industry experts predict West's sixth studio album will sell 500,000 copies in the first week of release. Those numbers would put "Yeezus" second behind Justin Timberlake's "The 20/20 Experience," which moved 968,000 and stands as the biggest debut of 2013. Forecasters generally use early orders from retail, first week performance of comparable albums, media exposure, radio and YouTube trends to formulate their numbers.

Though the man behind "Yeezus" thinks highly of himself, truth is the album has no single, no video or radio airplay and has no pre-order available in digital stores. West's last solo effort was 2010's "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy," which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart with 496,000 units sold. West's collaborative effort with Jay-Z, "Watch the Throne," saw their self-titled 2011 release also debut at No. 1 with 436,000.
A rumored tracklist has surfaced ahead of the album's June 18 release. And if the 10-song catalogue featuring names like Bon Iver's Justin Vernon, KiD CuDi and Chicago bad boy Chief Keef is legit, "Yeezus" looks to shake things up. As much was said by the album's executive producer, Rick Rubin, who spoke about collaborating with West to the Wall Street Journal.
"He is pure in his art and in a form where so many choices artists make are often the result of business consideration," Rubin said about West's unique marketing approach.
"Kanye chooses to let his art lead.  He didn’t want a premeditated commercial (single) for his album as he looks at it as a body of work.  I like it anytime an artist follows his own vision of a project and doesn’t use the cookie-cutter template expected of most artists.  Kanye proceeds on the road less traveled and I applaud him for it."

Why Seyi Shay might end up dating Vector or Ice Prince
Deborah Oluwaseyi Joshua globally known as Seyi Shey raps up a pretty interesting conversation with Toolz on Ndani TV’s “The Juice”
Seyi starts by talking about her multi-racial girl group in the UK, where she kick-started  her music career before coming down to Nigeria. She talks about the influence her mentor, Sound Sultan, had on her in helping her make a decision to come into the Nigerian music industry.
The chat takes an interesting dimension as inquisitive Toolz, prods Seyi to spill her celebrity crush in the Industry. Seyi was swift to mention PSquare (the one of the twin who’s not taken). Apparently she might be referring to Paul Okoye (Peter is the family who has a son Cameron and a baby girl). When since they were both declared unavailable. She moved on to Timaya (because she loves his music).
She also mentioned that she loved Vector because he had great teeth (translated that he’s kissable). She also said she loved Ice Prince.
She revealed that she’ll obviously end up dating someone in the Nigerian entertainment industry. If you’ve been longing to date Seyi Shay, get into the industry (music industry).

Top 10 quotes from Kanye West’s whacky interview with the NYT

Weird rapper, Kanye West recently did an interview with the New York Times to promote his latest album “Yeezus.” Like any keen observer of Mr. West will expect, the interview was filled with his usual “I’m the best thing since sliced bread” rhetorics. He even compares himself to Steve Jobs in this epic quote: “I am undoubtedly, you know, Steve of Internet, downtown, fashion, culture.”
No, you are Steve Jobs of tooting your own horn and trying to shove your genius down our throats.
“Respect my trendsetting abilities,” he says for the umpteenth time since College Dropout unleashed him on an ill-prepared world.
Here are some of my favourite quotes.
1. Kanye on Kanye:
“I am so credible and so influential and so relevant that I will change things.”
2. On winning the Grammys:
“I don’t know if this is statistically right, but I’m assuming I have the most Grammys of anyone my age, but I haven’t won one against a white person.”
Also:
“I don’t care about the Grammys; I just would like for the statistics to be more accurate.”
3. On Kim Kardashian:
“I just see like, an amazing person that I’m in love with that I want to help.”
4. On his tendency to go off script especially at award shows:
“It’s only led me to complete awesomeness at all times. It’s only led me to awesome truth and awesomeness. Beauty, truth, awesomeness. That’s all it is.”
5. On 808 and Heartbreaks (the album on which he sings almost throughout and very badly.):
“Yeah. I love the fact that I’m bad at [things], you know what I’m saying? I’m forever the 35-year-old 5-year-old. I’m forever the 5-year-old of something.”
6. On his inevitable fame:
“I knew when I wrote the line “light-skinned friend look like Michael Jackson” [from the song “Slow Jamz"] I was going to be a big star.”
7. On his impending baby:
“Like, this is my baby. This isn’t America’s baby.”
8. On his current style:
“Yeah, kill self. That’s all I have to say. Kill self.”
9. On his public image:
“The idea of Kanye and vanity are like, synonymous.”
10. On being an innovator:
“Yeah, respect my trendsetting abilities. Once that happens, everyone wins.”

There are other “Seriously!”/eye roll worthy quotes from the interview. These may not even been the best. Read the full interview here: http://mobile.nytimes.com/2013/06/16/arts/music/kanye-west-talks-about-his-career-and-album-yeezus.html

Imo community threatens to relocate to Rivers

The people of Umuagwo Autonomous Community in Ohaji-Egbema Local Government Area, Imo State, have threatened to relocate to neighbouring Rivers State if the planned relocation of major schools in Imo State Polytechnic, located in the area, is not rescinded by the state government.
The state government recently announced plans to relocate some faculties of the tertiary institution to Orlu, Ehime-Mbano and Ikeduru LGAs.
In a statement on Wednesday, the Imo State Polytechnic Stakeholders Forum condemned the planned relocation of the Engineering School to the present site of Technological and Skill Acquisition Centre in Orlu; Business and Management School to Cooperative College, Nsu; and another to Ikeduru.
The group said the development was aimed at marginalising the area further in spite of its known contribution as the agricultural belt and oil and gas area of the state.
The group further called on Governor Rochas Okorocha to rescind the planed relocation to avoid confusion or destroy the existing peace. They called on the government to maximise the vast land donated to the Institution by their people as it can accommodate more institutions
The polytechnic was formerly known as the Micheal Okpara College of Agriculture before its upgrade five years ago.

Group wants National Theatre named after Fatai Rolling Dollar

Fatai Rolling Dollar
A rights group, Human Rights Writers’ Association Of Nigeria HURIWA, has canvassed the renaming of the National Theatre in Lagos, run by the Federal Ministry of Tourism, Culture and National Orientation, after legendary musician, Fatai Rolling Dollar, who died in a Lagos hospital Wednesday, after a brief illness.
The group, in a statement by its National Coordinator, Emmanuel Onwubiko and the National Media Affairs Director Zainab Yusuf,  said the late musician brought tremendous global honour to Nigeria and remained one of the best-known ambassadors of the indigenous Nigerian music genre until his death.
Rolling Dollar, the group argued, deserve the best national recognition by the Federal Government, saying President Goodluck Jonathan, as a well-known lover of African indigenous creative arts and music should “not hesitate to take urgent measures to immortalize this great man of Music”.
HURIWA recalled media reports quoting widow of the late musician, Zainab Olagunju, as saying her husband died Wednesday morning after a week of hospitalization following his return from the United States where he was also briefly treated and discharged upon completion of a musical performance.
One of his most legendary and well-loved songs remains his single ‘Won Kere Si Number Wa’, which HURIWA described as having become a global brand in most social events attended by black people and even some Caucasians.
The group added, “As a human rights group,  with strong bias for the promotion and protection of our revered African tradition and culture, we agrees with  the considered assessment of most Music critics around the World that the late Music Legend  Mr. Fatai The Rolling Dollar had paid his dues since he began his illustrious Music career in the 1950′s with Queen Mary Orchestra, the Isa Jubril [the first  and famous highlife Musician from the conservative Northern Nigeria] who played in Ghana with the Black Beats and Ishola Willie Payne group where they established the Music style of Palm wine Music, in the words of the globally acclaimed  Music Critic Benson Idonije just as Juju Music originated from the style expertly delivered to World audience by Fatai the Rolling Dollar”.
“Fatai Rolling Dollar defied conventional science and logic of old age as he remained one of the most sought after dance hall performers and Musicians in Nigeria and across the World even in his very old age.”

A Saudi Arabian prince has been accused of kidnapping, raping a girl and dumping her body in the streets.
Although police in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia have confirmed that a girl was indeed raped and murdered by a Saudi prince, the prince has not yet been charged, reports say.
Identified as Prince Khalid bin Sa’ad bin Abdul Aziz al-Saud, he was said to have met the girl at a shopping mall and she turned him down.
Witnesses in Samer, a Jeddah suburb told news agents that after they saw the girl’s body which was wrapped up in a blanket being dropped out of a car on May 30, they decided to call the police.  When police arrived, they realised the girl had died.
Since the incident became news, some other witnesses have also come out to say that they saw the prince’s body guards put the girl into the car.
The prince could not escape the crime either because apart from eye witnesses report, police surveillance system had captured the plate number for the car and identified it as belonging to a Saudi prince.
According to reports, the police said the girl was then kidnapped by a friend of the prince’s and taken to a place where she was harassed.  When she tried to get away, that’s when they raped and killed the woman.
